Hey, Jonathan! How are you doing? I found out we're going to be in Roanoke a lot more than I thought. We'll be popping off to other locations for a few days on occasion, but will come back here after that. I can give you more of a schedule if you like, once I have my planner with me. Are you in contact with any of these folks down here about visiting? They might end up being pretty restrictive, but Kylene will be talking to Mr. Escobar soon about how he wants to handle that and what the policy will be. Anyway...I've got to run to a meeting...but hopefully I'll get to meet you before too long. I hope it works out for you to come down here! Unless you're already in contact with somebody, I'll let you know what I find out about visiting policies... :-)

Hey Stacey, Sorry about my delay. My computer is completely dead...so I'm kinda limited! How have the fist several days of filming gone!!?? I hope everything is going smoothly? How are you enjoying your position in the art department? I know exactly what you mean by trying to become familiar with as many filmmaking jobs as possible. I saw the importance of knowing about each department while I was on Ace Wonder. As an intern on Ace Wonder, I worked in the camera department under the DP. I was actually 2nd AC for about half of the shooting! I was also able to spend some time in a few of the other departments. I especially wanted to spend some time in G&E department to learn about lighting, but I was able to watch most all of the light setups even if I wasn't involved!

Thanks for getting me some more info on vistiting set! I appreciate it, and I would really like to see a schedule! You could just email it to me. Yes, my brother and I are really looking forward to visiting set! Kylene is the lady we have been in touch with about visiting, and it sounds like we will have to wait until they tell us when we can come. She told us that they were working it out though!

Have you been able to learn some photography tips and tricks from anyone on set yet? Yes, it's also easier for someone to show me things like that and then for me just to do them rather than me reading from a text book. However I have just flipped through some books, just not many. Yes, it sounds like you all will be busy with all your locations! That will be neat to be in all of those different locations! Yeah, I actually ended up being a driver for many of the interns! I had a full car!! I enjoy driving though :) We really didn't do that much sight-seeing, most of us would sleep on Saturdays that we weren't filming, or all the interns would spend time together! We had such a good time! Do you have any particular places that you really want to see?!

Well, I'm glad that God has opened the door for you to take part in working on this film and I know that he will show you much! I also know what it's like to be on set and how exhausting it can be to put in the kind of hours that you might be working day after day, I pray that God will give you the strength you need! Looking forward to hopefully meeting you too!

Oh my word, did I seriously never respond to this? I'm sorry, Jonathan! I can remember sitting down and typing my reply in my hotel room shortly after your comment was posted...and I don't know what happened to keep it from getting published! :-(

Well, I don't know if you've heard anything from Kylene by this point, but they did make the decision early on to keep it as a closed set. Only VIP's are allowed to visit. Not even our families could visit the set. So...I'm sorry about that. :-(

A lot has changed in the past few weeks. The biggest thing is that about 9 or 10 of us (meaning the PA's) were let go due to budget cuts (and they expect more such cuts to come). And yes, I was in the last batch. Friday was my last day (which I was informed of at midnight on Friday -- nothing like short notice!). It has been really hard on us all, but we are trusting that it is part of the Lord's plan. I'll be posting about that soon (nobody else knows yet). I will go ahead and clarify that the decision came from the people at the very top, and that Advent wasn't even given the option of choosing who to cut.

But for the three weeks I was working on the film, things went very well! I was very blessed to be in a great department working with some wonderful people! I learned a lot and made some lifelong friends. I'm grateful for the opportunity I had. I wish it could have been longer, but I know that God has other things in store for me...like the San Antonio Film Festival and Academy!!! I've been wanting to go ever since they started it, but this is the first year I've had the opportunity, the money, and friends to go with! Will you be there, by any chance?

The only thing I gained in the area of photography was a sun spot on my lens. I'm pretty bummed about that. I can't imagine how it happened, and now it mars almost all of my pictures. :-( I was going to buy a new camera with all the money I'd be making (since they decided to pay the PA's), but now I only have three weeks' salary and a lot of that will be spent going to San Antonio.

BUT, while I'm in TX, I'll be staying with Anna Becker (who was the stills photographer for HERO and ALONE), so I plan to learn as much from her as I can while I'm there for the week. :-)

It's a shame it didn't work out so you and your brother could visit the set. As far as meeting each other, I'm sure it will happen before too long. Either in TX if you're going to the Festival, or we can get together during one of my trips to Blacksburg to visit other friends late this year or in the Spring.

I hope you're doing well! Again, I'm sorry my original response never got posted. I feel bad to have left you hanging for so long. Have a great week!

Hey Stacey,
No, I never got a reply. lol I checked your blog a couple of times as well to make sure I didn't miss anything, but I just figured you were quite busy on set - pulling hours like I did on Ace Wonder. It's no problem! That's strange that it didn't publish though, huh, interesting... :)
Well, we have been in touch with Kylene a couple of times, but nothing ever came of it. We did hear through Nate Eckerson (we know him from AW) that it was a closed set. So, I don't think it's going to happen. Oh well, we tried. :)
I am so sorry about you being let go from the set...I'm sure that's hard :( I know that's not exactly what you had in mind, but He is in control for sure. However, I'm sure you learned a lot from being on set even if it was a little shorter than expected :) I look forward to reading your posts about it!
As a matter of fact, I am going to be in Texas for the Academy and Festival! I am SO ready for it too! That's awesome that you will be attending, it's going to be a great learning experience. So, I will for sure see you there! As far as coming to Blacksburg in the future, just let me know when you are coming
through, and we'll try to make it happen.

Hope all is well! Thanks for the post/update!
